Aria, the tournament host was the first pilot to land on field in the first match of the tournament. On the opposite end Rynn warped in her polarized Kestrel. As multiple times so far, her weird fits actually worked. As much as Aria was excited for the tournament to start, his Incursus blew up before he could say "Hey, my shields are g..."
Ase and Cimburaska were up next. For some reason, Cimb thought it's fine to bring destroyers to a frigate-only fight but Ase didn't think much of it. A rematch was scheduled and a glorious fight between a Tristan and a Punisher ended with the Tristan taking the win.
The final duel of the evening paired Mick and Skipp. The damping Tristan a fantastic move on Mick's side forcing Skipp's kitey Breacher much closer than initially planned as the locking range plummeted almost by half. However, Mick was AB fit which enabled Skipp to hold enough distance to take the drones out for a ride while still applying max damage.
The first match between Aria and Mick started as a very even fight. Both ships were fairly tanky and could easily withstand the initial volleys of damage. Luckily for Mick, Aria fitted for close range and even forgot his drones which means he didn't apply as much damage as he could have making this Mick's first win of the tournament.
Ase mentioned his tripple-damp Maulus prior to the fight so Skipp had a fit ready. Unfortunately, the guitar-pick-toss decided not to take the Maulus killer but the Tormentor instead. The fight started as expected with Ase pulling major range and damping the everliving crap out of the Tormentor. Unfortunately, Ase got greedy and tried orbiting to maximize his DPS which gave Skipp a window to land scrams and webs after which it didn't take long for the paper-thin Maulus to become a shiny 'splosion.
The final duel was between Cimburaska and Rynn. Her Crucifier was a gamble with dual tracking disrupts which the whole fit heavily relied on. Luckily, her opponent kinda needed tracking to apply damage. The duel was close and evenly matched since the Crucifier isn't really that good at actually shooting, but massive disrupts kept it alive long enough to put pressure and blow up the Slasher.
Cimburaska and Mick were the first pilots to drop on field for this week's duel. Once again, Mick fielded his trusty Tristan but with a slightly modified fit with full neuts and damps while Cimb took out a Condor. Mick's damps forced Cimb to chase him most of the fight but having all high-slots dedicated to neuts, Tristan's drones didn't have enough DPS to break the kitey Condor. Likewise, being damped to low locking range, Cimb only managed to kill some of Mick's drones making this the first draw of the tournament.
Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer - Ase made heavy usage of knowing Rynn would take some asshole-y fit so he brought a Vigil navy with sensor boosts to counter whatever e-war she may bring. And seeing her undock a Navy Griffon, he was very confident that it actually might work. The fight started with a tactical warp-in at zero and another tactical retreat to take full advantage of the long web bonuses on the Vigil that ultimately won the fight since Rynn's Navy Griffon wasn't able to apply as much damage at range
With no kills so far in the tournament, Aria brought on a megachonky Punisher that boasted a whoopin' 18k EHP. He was so confident to claim that if he lost the fight against Skipp tonight, he would drop everything and go mining. On the other side of the field, Skipp was too lazy to change ships so he fielded the same Tormentor as last time. Aria warped at zero, obviously going for scram but he didn't count on a simple web from the opposing ship to keep him out of optimal shooting range. It took some time to crunch through all that buffer armor, but eventually, Aria will have to go mining...
Cimburaska and Aria both undocked Kestrels for their fight this week. Aria warped at 0 and quickly found out his passive fit can't hold against Cimb's active repped Kestrel. Luckily for him, he was flying a MWD ship so he simply kited around to regen some of his shields back before going back in to apply DPS. Cimb was prepared with a fit that was stable enough to run active reps so this fight ended in a draw - winning Aria his first championship point!
As everyone before, Skipp also expected an asshole fit from Rynn so he went for a brawly Firetail while Rynn brought a Maulus Navy. She warped at 70 forcing Skipp to burn in... And burn in he truly did. Heating his MWD, Skipp got 13km away from Rynn before realizing he shut down his MWD instead of turning off the heat. By the time his MWD was on again, Rynn pulled some range forcing her opponent to heat the MWD once again. Unfortunately, a misclick made the MWD run one cycle too long which made it burn out. Rynn laughed. Drones did pewpew. Firetail got clapped. Mistakes were made.
The final duel of the night was between Mick in a chonky Punisher and Ase who brought a speedy armor tanked Merlin. The fight started pretty evenly with the Merlin keeping full control and range with the AB and speedtanking most of the incoming damage where Mick just calmly strolled while sitting comfy on his huge armor buffer. Just as Ase made work of half of the Punisher's armor, he also made a mistake of burning out his propmod. This ultimately made Mick apply damage better and kill the not-so-speedy-any-more Merlin.
Rynn and Mick were the openers for this week. Rynn brought on an optimistically short-ranged, dual-tanked Incursus against Mick's Griiffin Navy. Mick chomped through Rynn's shields and armor really fast but she managed to stop panicking and start micromanaging her modules just about as her hull was screaming red. Dualreps did their thing for the full duration of the duel finally resulting in a draw.
Ase and Aria were up next. Soaking up all the advice and studying his notes, Aria brought a Tristan hoping his lazy-drone approach will work against Ase's Rifter. A full set of Hobgoblins ate through the Rifter quickly but Ase still had some aces up his sleeves (horrible pun, I know...). He kited like a champ, taking drones out for a ride in an attempt to kill some of them. Unfortunately, his ancil repper went into reload as five angry drones caught up. The duel was only 6 seconds away from a draw when drones caught up and managed to kill the Rifter before the ancil managed to cycle.
Skipp and Cimburaska were up next. As promised, Skipp brought back his Tormentor while Cimb brought a Condor. As Cimb landed at zero, Skipp somehow managed to burn out of scram range and start kiting, but wasn't able to apply much damage since he had to constantly correct his course with Cimb happily chasing after. Without major weapon application, Cimb swapped to shooting drones forcing Skipp back into close range. As scrams and webs landed, Skipp got neuted and would otherwise be very much dead if it wasn't for the Tormentor's high DPS that managed to drop the Condor mere seconds before being cap dry.
Rynn went back to her megatanky Incursus against her fight with Aria fielding a Tristan. She did some slight modifications so her range was a bit better, but Aria made sure to counter that with a nasty damp. The Tristan was slightly slower than the Incursus but Aria kited away since the start of the duel forcing Rynn to chase and hopefully get under the damped lock range. They scratched some shields off of one another but after the 5min mark, both ships were still standing.
Our second duel was between Skipp's Hookbil and Mick's Griffin Navy. As per mutual agreement, none of them would fit MWDs. Mick warped at range, once again forcing Skipp to burn in hard while being jammed, and yet again mistakes were made with overheating the wrong set of modules. Skipp managed to land webs and start applying rocket damage just about his AB burnt out turning this potentially easy win into a nail biting 4minutes of shooting drones and hoping Hookbil's shields hold long enough. Luckily for him, the 5min timer buzzed just as the Hookbil started loosing armor.
Due to RL stuff, duel between Ase & Cimburaska was postponed for the upcoming week.
We started tonight with our last week's missing contenders. Cimburaska came with a shiny Hookbil while Ase brought yet again a meme Merlin. The fight was fierce with our Merlin pilot quickly dropping into hull but his ancil repper worked a small miracle holding it together. Combined with two magnetic field stabilizers, Ase pumped out an impressive amount of DPS taking Cimb's Hookbil down.
The official first fight for this week was between Mick's Punisher and Aria's Kestrel. As Aria unleashed the full power of his rockets, Mick just laughed as he didn't want his shields anyway. He quickly responded by taking the Kestrel's shields down as well forcing Aria to pull range and retreat to regen at least some of them back. As the timer was closing down to the last minute, Aria rushed in trying to get under Mick's guns but his sig bloom didn't help much as the Punisher took the kill and gained Mick another 3 points.
Following up on his previous win, Ase undocked a Hookbil to face Skipp's Firetail. Knowing Skipp's tendency to burn modules out, he warped at 60km and easily started chunking through his enemy. After a bit of a chase, Skipp managed to scram and double-web the Hookbil with only a quarter of his cap left. Both pilots were in hull when Skipp ran out of cap and dropped scrams on his target that fortunately didn't notice and lost a chance to once again fly out of range. These few seconds were just about enough to provide Skipp one more ancil rep cycle and land the killing blow.
The final duel was between Rynn's fat Incursus and Cimburaska's Condor. Cimb Cimb Cimb was obviously paying attention to previous fights and warped at range which turned this fight into a chase from the very first moment! With dual reps and dual batteries, the Incursus can tank a lot but it's still not cap stable. Cimb applied pressure from a distance slowly draining Rynn's cap by forcing her to follow. She tried micromanaging her overheats and swapping to long-range ammo but that still wasn't enough to break the Condor after the full 5 minutes of the duel, providing both pilots one point.
Due to a GPU failure, Cimburaska wasn't available this week so his duel with Mick is postponed
As per mutual agreement, Ase and Rynn came with AB fits. Rynn undocked a Hookbil, while Ase took out a Griffin Navy with a normal and an oversized afterburner in case Rynn was up to her standard shenanigans. The fight started in Ase's favour as ECM drones did their thing so Rynn had to panic lock and try to mitigate some initial damage. Both pilots were looking at their ships fast approaching low hull points but this time, once again, Rynn came out as a winner - albeit in a very crispy ship!
The second fight this evening was between Aria's Tristan and Skipp's Firetail, and Aria was paying close attention to duel recaps each week to fit this Tristan as a cancer neuting menace. Skipp warped at zero to brawl out and was instantly neuted dry. His Firetail looking at only half a minute of cap in ideal conditions didn't really like the fact it was 100% out of tank and was being chunked by the Tristan drones. Unfortunately, Aria never pulled range out of brawly torpedos and lost his Tristan mere seconds before Skipp's Firetail was about to do the same.
After getting his motherboard fixed, Cimburaska came back to the tournament in a Kestrel for his previous-round fight with Mick who fielded a Punisher. The fight started just as Cimb planned - he warped in right on top of the Punisher, landed scrams and neuted Mick dry. With no cap, Mick had very little to do but sit there and wait for the inevitable explosion. Fortunately for him, Cimb made an error and dropped scrams at some point which made it possible for Mick to pull some distance, gain some cap back and apply full DPS to the Kestrel in chase which simply couldn't keep up as it had no prop mods.
The first fight of the 9th round was between Aria's Tristan and Cimburaska's Condor. Aria, the lover of lazy fits, finally perfected his drone boat to a point where it simply couldn't lose a fight. With Aria's disguising neuting fit and an ungodly amount of cap recharges, Cimb simply couldn't play this duel right. Going in close would mean instant neuting, and staying at range would mean no applied DPS. Hobgoblins did their thing and eventually chunked through their target.
As previously agreed, both Rynn and Skipp fielded AB fits. Rynn brought a Navy slicer with an overdrive in hope of some extra speed and kiting while Skipp fielded a chonky armor buffered Punisher. With very limited midslots and high brawly DPS, Skipp's only chance of winning this was to web down the target and hope there's no ewar on the other side. Luckily this was exactly the case. With no damps or ECM, the Punisher sat on top of the Slicer during the whole fight and simply facetanked all incoming damage while applying full DPS from up close.
The last fight of this round saw Ase in his Hookbil face Mick's Griffin Navy. Ase chose a double-ancil brawler fit which Mick saw right through by warping at range. As Ase started to chase him down, Mick was in no hurry and took his time to simply turn around and kite while tossing his ECM drones at the same time. Slowly but surely, Hookbil's ancils held for a while but ultimately the distance was too much and lack of any real pressure to Mick's tank won him the match.
With the 2nd place in the tournament still open up for grabs, Mick simply couldn't afford to lose against Rynn this week since that would mean going into the Abyss to settle the potential same number of points on the leaderboard. But technically, he didn't have to win! In true EVE blue-balling content-denying fashion, Mick fitted his Slasher for max speed and ran away from Rynn as fast as he could. He kept his speed up for the full duration of the duel making it a draw and securing his 2nd place in the tournament.
Our second match of the night between Aria and Ase was a true nail-biter! Once again, Aria fielded a Tristan while Ase brought a Vigil Fleet and warped straight to zero. Both pilots unleashed everything they had, overheating both the drones and their belief. On one side, Aria forgot he can overheat his repper, on the other - Ase forgetting he has a repper all together! Both ships were dipping into single digit hull percentages and catching late armor reps but the minmatar rust prevailed with only 4% hull remaining as the Tristan blew up...
And finally, with his first place secured, Skipp brought a meme Heron Navy against Cimburaska's Condor. With the advantage of the "away" duelist, he bet everything on the initial warpin and landing scram-webs since the Heron isn't really the prime PvP ship. And since Cimb showed various ships previously in the tournament, Skipp had to gimp down the usual dual-tracking disruption fit with a mix of tracking and missile disruptors. This time, Cimb wasn't MWD fit so Skipp's plan worked. The mighty Heron landed scram and unleashed volleys of rockets for the final explosion of the tournament.
